Our Solution
“There is no fundamental difference between man and animals in their ability to feel pressure and pain, happiness, and misery.” This was stated by English naturalist, geologist and biologist, Charles Darwin. Animals are being subjected to pain and suffering every single day by people who either don't care about what they feel or by people that just don't know the proper way to take care of them. It's our job as individuals to end animal mistreatment.
In order to achieve this, we thought it was necessary to look within our community first, Peru. We figured out that guinea pigs are very common pets around the world. The first guinea pigs were domesticated in about 5000 B.C. by the Incas a very old civilization in Peru. The thing about guinea pigs, is that although they are very common pets, they are also very commonly used as food. In almost all of Peru, guinea pigs are eaten very frequently, it's a one of Peru's typical dish. It has become part of the Peru’s culture, people still and will always eat guinea pig. It's something we can't change.
So, we looked at the project from another perspective: if people eat guinea pigs and it's something we cannot change; what can we change in order to improve our relationship with such patriotic animal? This is what we found out: We figured out that guinea pigs are subjected to very harmful situations such as:
Based on these problems our solution came, and what was our solution? GUIPIG. GUIPIG consists of a group of projects that tackle most of the issues regarding mistreating Guinea Pigs.

This is what we found out: We figured out that guinea pigs are subjected to very harmful situations such as:
- Scientific and research experiments
- Urban expansion
- Lack of information about proper care
- Lack of laws protecting guinea pigs
- Immoral thinking
Based on these problems our solution came, and what was our solution? GUIPIG. GUIPIG consists of a group of projects that tackle most of the issues regarding mistreating Guinea Pigs.
GUIPIG is a group of projects that include a
- Movement via FB that supports animal rights. This would potentially reduce the harm on guinea pigs as research tests.
- A care guide. This will assure good care from guinea pig owners towards the guinea pig. This guide will be found on the GUIPIG website and APP (which brings us to the third point)
- An APP and Website. GUIPIG will have it's own mobile application and website. This will inform the reader about guinea pigs, their history, how to take care of them, what they eat, etc. In the website you can also contact the government to know or suggest more animal laws regulations.
- An online store where we sell products that support animal movement. They can donate money that will go Voz Animal, a dog shelter. Some products include t-shirts, hats, mugs.
